By the middle of the year, January can feel a long way away.

Plans may have changed, unexpected priorities may have appeared and some goals may no longer feel as important as they once did.

A mid-year review gives you a chance to pause before simply carrying the same momentum into the next six months.

Start with what has happened

Look back over the first half of the year.

What changed? What did you complete? What surprised you? What became more difficult or more important?

Recognise progress properly

People often focus on unfinished goals and overlook what has already moved forward.

Write down the things you have achieved, improved or learned, even if they were not part of the original plan.

Review what did not happen

Look at goals or intentions that have made little progress.

Ask why. Was the goal unrealistic? Did another priority replace it? Was the action unclear? Did you avoid it?

The purpose is learning, not judgement.

Check whether the goal still matters

Do not automatically carry every unfinished goal into the second half of the year.

Some goals should be renewed. Some should be changed. Some should be dropped.

Look at the whole picture

Consider more than work or achievement.

How are your health, relationships, energy, finances, learning, personal time and sense of direction?

Progress in one area can sometimes hide neglect in another.

Choose a small number of priorities

The second half of the year does not need a long list of new goals.

Choose the few outcomes that would make the biggest positive difference by the end of the year.

Turn priorities into the next 90 days

Six months can still feel distant. Translate your priorities into a focused 90-day period.

What would you like to be true three months from now? What needs to happen this month? What can you do this week?

Use the review to reset, not criticise

A review is valuable because it helps you make better decisions from this point forward.

You cannot change the first half of the year, but you can use what you learned from it.
